NSW Government Extends Drive Electric EV Destination Charging Grants

To accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and improve environmental sustainability, the NSW Government has extended applications for the Drive Electric EV Destination Charging Grants to 2nd August 2024, AEST 5 pm.

This initiative supports the installation of EV charging stations at tourist destinations across NSW. With an allocation of $20 million for the programme, the government aims to make EV charging more accessible and encourage more Australians to consider EVs a viable transportation option.

The grants are designed to cover up to 75% of the capital costs of purchasing and installing EV chargers. Eligible regional NSW businesses and councils are encouraged to apply. Addelec + Gemtek can help guide you through the process and offer expert insights on EV charging feasibility, installation, and maintenance.

Application Process

      1. Before Applying

For destination types, your site should have a valid listing on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) to prove that it contributes to NSW tourism.

It’s also important to understand the financial and operational commitments involved with the grant. Addelec + Gemtek can provide preliminary consultations to help you understand these commitments and prepare for the application process.

Start by verifying your eligibility for the grant. Eligible organisations and sites include:

              • Local Government Areas (LGAs) in New South Wales

              • Sites with no more than 4 existing EV charge ports

      2. Preparing to Apply
Once eligibility is confirmed, the next step involves contacting an EV charging supplier or licensed electrical contractor such as Addelec + Gemtek. We can help you select the appropriate technology and setup by advising on the specifications and capabilities of approved hardware.

Our team will conduct a thorough site assessment to evaluate your electrical systems and infrastructure readiness. We will also provide you with commercial quotes for the required EV chargers and software to meet the grant’s financial and technical criteria.

During this stage, gather all necessary business information that will support your application. These include:

              • A photograph and the address of the proposed installation location
              • The model number of your hardware and software selections from the  eligible list
              • Your selected quote (with ineligible items excluded

      3. Sending Your Application
To submit your application, register on the SmartyGrants platform and fill out the application form. Read and agree to the terms and conditions of the grant.

Your application should be submitted by an authorised representative from your organisation and not from a third party. An email notification will be sent within 8 weeks of your submission date to confirm the outcome of your application.

The installation of EV chargers and any chosen software must be finalised within 5 months of funding approval. Our team will provide you with the necessary documents as evidence of installation. You will then send these on the grant's application platform to claim your grant payment.
