Synergy – EV Charging Network

The Synergy EV Charging Network project aimed to introduce a pilot EV charging network incorporating both AC destination chargers and DC fast chargers across strategic locations across Western Australia. This initiative marked a significant step in expanding electric vehicle infrastructure to meet growing demands, focusing on accessible and efficient charging solutions.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to develop a reliable and cost-effective EV charging network that could serve various high-traffic locations. The project team faced the task of selecting the most suitable hardware and software providers from multiple options, ensuring the chosen technology met the high standards required for public use and operational sustainability.

Solution

After a comprehensive review, Schneider Electric and Tritium were chosen as the hardware and software providers based on cost-effectiveness and technological efficiency. The AC destination chargers were installed in key urban centres, including Lakeside Shopping Centre, Joondalup, Homebase Display Village, Subiaco, the University of Western Australia in Crawley, and the Forrest Centre in Perth City. Additionally, Tritium DC Chargers were strategically placed in White Gum Valley and Kojonup. The turnkey service included:Supplier and product review to determine the best components for the network.System design and cost modelling to ensure financial viability and operational efficiency.Engineering and project management to oversee the implementation from start to finish.Installation and commissioning to ensure all systems were operational as intended.Comprehensive training for operators and staff to manage the charging stations effectively.Remote monitoring systems to maintain and troubleshoot the network as needed.

Impact

The successful deployment of the Synergy EV Charging Network significantly enhanced the availability of charging options for electric vehicle users and promoted the adoption of electric vehicles in the region. By integrating advanced charging technology at key locations, the project helped to improve the infrastructure for sustainable transportation. The project not only supported local government sustainability goals but also provided essential services in urban and semi-rural areas, thus broadening the scope and accessibility of electric vehicle usage across Western Australia.
